#medalmonday it's taken me a long time to get moving today. My legs are crushed, and I'm more tired than I've been in a long long time. I already miss the awesome people I've had the privilege to spend the weekend with, from the mad crew of team #diabadasses that came in 50th out of 173 (pic illustrates!! ) To the amazing runners out on the course that like nothing more than a chat while they ran the 4 mile up/1 mile down course of reading #endure24 My head is saying absolutely not for next year, but my heart is saying how could I miss out??
#endure24 laps 3 and 4 in the dark. The teams over the 100 mile mark now and still #running strong. I really struggled with my night runs this time, the slushy muddy ground with just a head torch is tough but the inspiration of the solo #runners gets you round. 1 or 2 more #runs left for me, my legs are screaming only one but we will see.
#endure24 lap 2. Starting to dry out on the course. Consistent #running so far but next up is a double lap in the dark...booo!! Loving this atmosphere
#run one done at #endure24. Dead on pace at 50 mins. May have felt a little sick after the beers last night, so hopefully run 2 will be easier. New PB on heartbreak 'bastard' hill
#Repost @we_run_diabetes • • • • • • #flashbackfriday to Endure 24 Reading last year! En route to this years event to #run with this team of #typeone runners. 🤞🏼the rain stays away... #t1dlookslikeus #ihavediabetesitdoesnthaveme #werundiabetes
24 hours till #endure24 wooo wooooooooo! Can't wait to get to my lovely warm glamping tent and see all the fantastic #runners that make this event the best event of the year. Fingers crossed the rain stays away and our small team of 5 #diabadasses can beat our 2018 total. Personally I want to achieve 35 miles...that may change given the weather conditions but that's where my head is at...oh yeah and to avoid #ketoacidosis this year...that sucked!
Felt like I needed too even though I've had more niggles from the calf so curtailed it to a #5k #run round my village. Started with good blood sugars of 7.0 and took it nice and easy. #hypo as I got back home but I already corrected for it as I could feel the levels dropping. That feeling is hard to explain to none #diabetic peeps, it's a panic but instead of becoming hyper awake you feel tired and want to shut your eyes and drop somewhere for a rest, sorta... 5 days now till #endure24 and I'm looking forward to seeing the #diabadass again. I have a target in mind for mileage at the #ultra but not sure I will make it this year.
90% day... That's 90% of the entire day that I managed to keep my blood sugars in the range of a non #diabetic. The first time in 22 years I have ever felt totally in control of it and everything just worked. I can't do that every day but the power of the #freestylelibre from @abbot is clear, this little device will save the #nhs huge amounts of money in the long run. Still in search of the #unicorn 100% day but I'm very happy.
Pace judgement at #pwac 20 minutes out, then 20 minutes to beat you get back. If the pub at the finish point had been open I'd of made it back a lot quicker!!! Lovely night for it, felt a billion times better than my run last Thursday, all because I got my blood sugars right this week so #diabetes didn't affect the #run. One more run on Sunday then rest for the manic weekender that is #endure24
Happy #globalrunningday! #running has introduced me to so many amazing people and adventures I honestly don't know what I would do without it!!
Time to #runswansea again. The last time I ran a half marathon PB (1.50 ) was Swansea in 2017, but there won't be any pb's this time. I'm enjoying my running far more and the times reflect it as I'm not pushing myself. Maybe it's time to start focusing on a bit of speed for after the summer break 🤔 Just the small matter of #endure24 to tackle first.
After a weekend of over indulgence I had to get out and #run even in this heat. #endure24 is only 2 weeks away and I'm just not ready. Terrible #bloodsugar of 14 at the start didn't help either but they are back at 6 now so the run has helped. #diabetes can be a right dick sometimes but it was my own fault.
3rd anniversary with the girl who makes me smile every day and love life. 😍😍
Very tired #pwac #run tonight. Really struggled with my #diabetes today and then second week running the blood sugars have fallen off a cliff and I went #hypo really quick.
#vitality10000 done and dusted. Hot and beautiful out there, absolutely perfect for a #run round #london. Happy with the time, started my watch and then didn't look at it again. Very happy with my time, still 4 minutes down on PB pace but I'm fat and old now haha
Sometimes...fuck #diabetes. No wait...always fuck diabetes. 5.2 miles into that #pwac #tempo #run and the alarms for my #cgm went mental so I had to stop and walk a little. So annoyed as I was really enjoying it and I was at a really good happy pace. After sitting in the car park waiting for the jelly babies to kick in and bring my blood sugar level above the legal minimum, I decided I bloody well deserved a McDonald's. So nomnom blah, start again tomorrow
#trailrunning with @ettastic to practise for #endure24. Coughing and sneezing all the way round after a week of illness I was just happy to get that done, loved it, but my head was saying I couldn't do it so I had to teach it I bloody could! #diabetes started off high at 16, and finished at 8 so quite glad to get that under control too, no need for jelly babies! Now 3 hours off and then to do it all again!!
First #run since London and it was beautiful. I was fretting over little Niggles that I was making into bigger injuries, worried I had plantar, bad tendon...you name it, but today I just shut my head off and #ran May do that again later when William is at his party woo woo!!
Looking forward to catching up with these #diabadasses at #endure24 in just a few weeks time. @we_run_diabetes , @moragkw , @muddysam , @nathanghogg 24 hours of trail running (mainly uphill as well! ) Is just what the doctor ordered to get over the fact that VLM 2019 is over. Who else is going??
#tat1d #tattoo absolutely love my present to myself for completing 2 marathons this year already. I am greater than my highs and lows Didn't hurt a bit and im sure the lady was wondering why I looked so nervous haha
#pwac 2019 marathoners and water station team complete with #bigben celeb haha (minus big Ben of course! ) Love this club to bits, the encouragement of everyone, even to those of us that are slower, is immense.
#medalmonday it took me ages to choose what to post...ok alright it took all of 2 seconds. Breakfast with the medal, off for a massage (with the medal ) and then leaving London to go back home (wearing the medal ). Looking forward to getting this one up on the wall with VLM2017,Paris2018, and Barcelona2019 medals. Focus and training now turns to #endure24 with team #diabadass. I want to break 35 miles this year after last year's #ketone infested 24 race.
#londonmarathon what a great day. Started right at the back so I could be with all the amazing #diabetesuk runners. Saw so many fantastic and amazing people on the way, and finished in 4.36 which I will take : ) Club at mile 22 were absolutely amazing and thank you to @keeleyrpruns and @running_with_ellie for the support as I went past. Special special thanks to my amazing lady @ettastic for organising a surprise for me for my birthday, and for having cake, prosecco and my friends at the finish. Love u baby. So many others to thank for their support and I will get to that but I've got to go get something to eat!! Starved!!! #diabetes played ball. Started at 10, finished at 10. No spikes, no lows!!
oooooh #flatlay for #londonmarathon...not seen one of them before haha 12 hours time I will be getting up to get ready for a small #run round the capital seeing some absolutely amazing people on the way. London is such an emotional #marathon and I can't wait to get back to the start line. It seems a long time back that I got drunk and said to my mates 'for my 40th birthday I could go do London again?' My 4th marathon for #diabetesuk, a charity very close to my heart as I'm a type one diabetic of over 20 years. Come on London, let's do this!!!
Expo done, #londonmarathon ready. Nothing to do now until Sunday for my #birthday #run! If you feel like sponsoring me to raise money for #diabetesuk then please do via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Grampsdoeslondon
#athlete haha. Last club training run done and ready for #londonmarathon on Sunday. I feel ready for this one, nervous as always, but ready. Can't wait for the expo tomorrow to get my number and then for Sunday to hurry up and arrive. Marathon number 4!!
Last #longrun done before #londonmarathon and there was a lot wrong with it. #diabetes wouldn't play ball, started at a #bloodsugar of 12.1 and finished at 14.1 but I was well over 16 as I got to #bastardhill. That being said, it's beautiful, it's sunny, it's a bank holiday weekend, and it's one week till my #birthday and the #marathon and I can't wait. Emily and I started together for the first 3 miles which is always nice, I love running with her, and then she turned back and I pushed on.
Ooof it's hot out there. No club this week as I needed to get a #run in straight from work and needed it to be a light one. Lovely run round my village and back before 6pm. 2 more runs before #londonmarathon next Sunday
Thanks to Emily for getting me out of that one!! Feel awful now but the #miaomiao text Emily to say I was having a #hypo and still hadn't woken up. 3 hours of being at 2.6/2.7 and I feel really drained. How I'm getting through Monday I have no idea...erg
#Run to #parkrun and then parkrun with Emily and LOADS of my club #pwac. Struggled a lot this morning with pain in my left foot (calves again ) and then with a lovely hypo that lasted 30 minutes. I was on a very strict time table as well so I really could have done without the hypo as I needed to stop and work it all out. Then to top it all off, my glucose sensor then got too cold to work again...so by the time I got to parkrun I was unsure whether the #hypo was fixed or still happening. Managed to get some heat through it just before parkrun started and I was ok for the run luckily. What a morning hah
No photo from tonight as it was too bloody cold and I wanted my McDonald's...so here's a #throwbackthursday to #swanseahalfmarathon from 2017 when apparently I had some muscles...little ones!! Great #run tonight although my legs are way too tired to push it right now, so I plodded round and round and round the track with the amazing #pwac runners.
Finish line shot from yesterday's #paddockwoodhalfmarathon I was determined to finish fast even if I'd taken a few 'breaks' mid race while checking my blood glucose. I can't wear headphones on these events as they are against UKA regulations so I couldn't rely on the sensor speaking my blood glucose levels, this meant that anytime I needed to get a check I had to back the pace right off, get the phone out of my #flipbelt, scan the #libre to get the result and then continue. A bit sad the race is over even with #londonmarathon coming up as it was absolutely amazing to run for my club on our day. When's 2020 date gonna be announced #pwac?
Bloody great #run this morning at the #paddockwoodhalfmarathon Perfect conditions, amazing support, the best martials, and my friends there too...couldn't have had more fun. Took off way too fast with @simonedwards58 so had to reel myself in a bit but most the miles started with 8's so I'm a very happy bunny. Two more #runs till the #londonmarathon
